Woman tries to use fake $100 bill at Hempfield casino
Pennsylvania State Police said a woman tried to slide a fake $100 bill into a slot machine Saturday at Live Casino Pittsburgh in Hempfield.
The bill was marked “For Cinematic Use Only” and was not accepted by the slot machine, police said.
Police said the fake bill jammed inside the slot machine, and a casino employee had to fix it.
That’s when the employee discovered the bill was illegitimate.
It is unclear whether charges will be filed.
Multi-vehicle crash snarls traffic on Parkway West
A multi-vehicle crash on the Parkway West (Interstate 376) at Poplar Street created heavy inbound traffic issues Tuesday morning, according to reports on Sigalert.
The crash, reported at 7:08 a.m., happened just under a mile west of Exit 67.
As of 8:30 a.m., the incident had been cleared to the shoulder.
Police say man threatened to kill to infant
Pittsburgh police were called to the 300 block of Cedar Avenue in East Allegheny on Monday for reports of a domestic fight in a gas station parking lot.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., an adult woman told police that she had been in “an altercation” with the father of her child. They had arrived to the parking lot in separate vehicles, police said, and their 5-month-old child was inside her vehicle.
The father of her child then took her vehicle with the child still inside — and fled the scene, police said.
The child was safely recovered with no injuries and was reunited with the mother, police said, after the father was tracked to a residence in Duquesne.
Sterling Smith, 22, of Pittsburgh made threats that he was “going to kill the baby, strangle the baby and throw the baby off of a bridge,” according to a criminal complaint, TribLive news partner WTAE reported.
Police said they used FaceTime to contact Smith, and he showed himself driving almost 100 mph while the baby was in the car.
Smith was taken into custody and transported to the Allegheny County Jail, where police said charges are forthcoming.
Driver exposes himself to 2 girls in Derry Borough
The Pennsylvania State Police report that two girls, ages 13 and 15, were walking home in Derry Township on March 16 when a man exposed himself to them.
Police said an unknown older male operating an older model red truck got their attention by beeping his horn.
Once the girls looked over, he “hoisted himself up and showed the girls his genitals,” the Kiski Patrol Unit of Pennsylvania State Police reported.
The man then drove away from the location — on Y Street/Brown Way — in an unknown direction, police said.
An investigation is ongoing.
Glenwood Bridge section reduced to 1 lane
Because of road construction, a section of the Glenwood Bridge, connecting the neighborhoods Hazelwood and Hayes in Pittsburgh, has been reduced to one lane.
The construction affects the bridge between Glass Run Road and PA-885/2nd Avenue, according to traffic reports on Sigalert.
Upgrades are scheduled to continue through November.
