A Westmoreland Land Trust programmer will conduct eight sessions this spring of natural journaling — writing one’s observations of nature — to chronicle the seasonal changes from March through June at the meadow at Twin Lakes Park east of Greensburg.

Paula Purnell, the coordinator of education programming for the Land Trust based in Hempfield, will conduct the nature journaling sessions from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday and March 16; April 6 and 20; May 4 and 18; and June 8 and 22.

Participants will walk to the meadow near the dekhockey rink at Peach Plaza Skate and Action Park, Georges Station Road, Hempfield. The meadow is accessible from the parking lot near the rink, along a mowed walking path.

Purnell said she will begin with a brief introduction and an optional nature journaling prompt. Those involved in the sessions will be on their own to explore the meadows, then return to a meeting place to share observations and nature encounters. Nature journaling can involve using using words, drawings, paintings and numbers to record a person’s observations and descriptions in a notebook.

Purnell said the nature journaling is part of a required service project to obtain a certification in nature journaling through the Wild Waters Foundation, a non-profit based in Pearl River, N.Y.
