New Stanton officials said a portion of Glenn Fox Road in the borough will close Friday.

It will not reopen until sometime this spring, said Jeff McLaughlin, borough manager. The closure was necessary to accommodate the increasing number of construction vehicles traveling to the build site of a 1 million square foot warehouse in the area.

The closure is necessary to help ensure safety, McLaughlin said.

Zoning board officials last month heard complaints about the number of heavy trucks traveling the road. The board denied the Layton Construction Co.’s request for round-the-clock construction.

The site is near the border with Hempfield and some residents and township officials voiced concerns about the amount of construction traffic and the deteriorating condition of the road.

The borough did not designate a detour route. A bridge carries Glenn Fox Road over the Pennsylvania Turnpike to the intersection with Arona Road.

The warehouse’s new tenants have not been identified.
