North Huntingdon has closed a section of a road off Route 993 in the Ardara neighborhood because part of the roadway slid into a creek that is a tributary of Brush Creek, North Huntingdon said Thursday.
Pine Hollow Road Extension was closed between Pine Hollow Road in North Huntingdon and Penn Township because of the safety concerns, said Harry Faulk, township manager. The extension does not connect with another road.
North Huntingdon took a cost estimate that the township engineers developed last year for repairing the roadway and used that information when it applied for a grant through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Local Share Category funded by casino revenue, Faulk said.
The township anticipates hearing from the state in the coming month whether its grant application was approved, Faulk said. North Huntingdon has budgeted $500,000 for a major project such as that one, “but we are hoping to get this project funded with grant money,” Faulk said.
