Repairs on a section of Paintertown Road and a resulting traffic detour are expected to begin Wednesday in North Huntingdon.

PennDOT officials said the road will be closed between Station Street and Bickerstaff Road while crews make repairs to a slide and the road shoulders, complete paving and upgrade guide rails.

Motorists will be directed along a posted detour using Route 130 and Nike Site Road.

The closure is expected to remain in place through October, depending on weather conditions.

Other roadwork

Meanwhile, PennDOT is planning additional work beginning Monday:

• Edge paving will take place on Rolling Hills Road/Waltz Mills Road in South Huntingdon and Sewickley townships.

• Shoulder cutting will take place on Route 819 (Five Point Road) and Hannastown Road in Hempfield and Salem townships, on Beaver Run and Boquet roads in Salem; on Locust Valley Road in Hempfield and on Crabtree/Kemp/Bardine roads in Unity and Salem townships.

• Pipes and box culverts will be installed on Wilpen Road in Ligonier Township and Laughner Road in Fairfield.

• Parallel ditching will take place on Catalina Farm Road in East Huntingdon.

A pavement preservation surface treatment will be applied on these roads in South Huntingdon:

• Route 981 (Scottdale Smithton Road)

• Mendon Road

• Jacobs Creek

• Pittsburgh Pike

•Turkeytown/Motordrome Road

Crews will pick up litter, replace and update signs and complete other work on various state roads throughout the county.

Motorists should anticipate potential detours, lane restrictions and flaggers in work areas.

Residents can call PennDOT toll-free at 800-349-7623 to report road maintenance concerns and the locations of dead deer on state highways.
