A North Huntingdon man was arrested last week on state police accusations that he took money from three people who registered their children for a lacrosse training camp but never held the event.
Christopher Langlais, 46, who also lists a Monroeville address in court records, is charged with taking $2,350 from the trio and failing to pay a $1,200 rental fee to Seton Hill University to use a field there, according to court papers.
Troopers were notified in October of the allegations. The three people who reported their money being stolen said their children previously had private skills lessons with Langlais at the university.
They reported signing their children up for a lacrosse training camp — two people paid $800 each and the third paid $750, police said in court papers. Communication with Langlais eventually stopped, and the camp was never held, the people reported.
They turned over receipts and electronic communication with Langlais to investigators.
Troopers said Langlais made arrangements with Seton Hill University to use a field there for the training session. College officials provided a receipt for the rental fee that was billed to him but not paid, according to court papers.
Langlais is charged with four counts of theft by deception and a single count of receiving stolen property. When reached by phone Tuesday, Langlais said he was trying to get in touch with his attorney. He did not have an attorney listed in court records. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 26. Langlais is free on $10,000 unsecured bond.
His name had been listed as being a board member of Norwin Lacrosse, but it was removed from the website Tuesday. A message sent to board members was not returned.
