Officials: No one injured in Hempfield fire

Nobody was injured in a Hempfield house fire early Friday morning.
The fire was reported after 6 a.m. along Everglade Road, south of Route 30, a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher said. A huge plume of smoke rose from the two-story structure as firefighters battled flames that kept rekindling throughout the morning.

“It was an old, old house,” said homeowner William Naser, adding that the house had been in the family for as long as he could remember.
Naser said nobody was in the home at the time of the fire, adding that his sister-in-law, who was living there with her cats, had left for work around 5:30 a.m. He said a neighbor noticed the smoke around 6:15 a.m. and called the fire department.
Around 8 a.m., the front of the house was charred, flames continuing to peek out of the attic and windows of the home. A barn previously caught fire at the home years ago, Naser said.
All 12 Hempfield stations were on scene, along with outside companies who brought extra water tankers.
Officials did not immediately know the cause of the fire.
