For Sam Paul, vocalist/guitarist for The Bricks, playing the Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s TGIS summer concert series is “like a little personal party. It’s just a great atmosphere with all the people who know us and come out to hear our music.
“It’s one of our highlights of the summer,” he said.
The Bricks will bring their three-part-harmony renditions of ’70s acoustic classics July 29 to TGIS, short for Thank Goodness It’s Summer, which returns June 10 to the lawn of the Greensburg Garden & Civic Center. The music will continue 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 19.
The free series opens its 17th year with the acoustic pop duo of Caryn Dixon and JAOH of the band My Hero Zero.
“It’s been a tough year for many people in the entertainment industry, and we feel fortunate to be able to share our music, once again, with everyone who supports us,” Dixon said.
Performers include TGIS veterans along with up-and-coming regional acts:
• June 10: Caryn Dixon and JAOH of My Hero Zero (acoustic pop)
• June 17: Josh Jams and Spencer Allan Patrick (one-man band showcase)
• June 24: Byron Nash (soul/rock)
• July 1: The String Theory (acoustic alternative)
• July 8: Gary Pratt and Kate Szaller (country)
• July 15: Maria Yezovich with Jon Zelhart; Aubrey Burchell with Noah Myers (soulful singers)
• July 22: Hamilton Ave. (classic rock)
• July 29: The Bricks (classic acoustic rock/folk)
• Aug. 5: Derek Woods Band (Americana/rock)
• Aug. 12: East Coast Turnaround (rock/blues/country/soul)
• Aug. 19: Barbara Blue with Mark Feiger & Friends (blues/soul)
Each week, guests will be able to buy food and beverages beginning at 5 p.m. at the venue at 951 Old Salem Road. The Elegant Catering food truck will be on-site every week, along with another weekly food vendor, said Jennifer Benford, the Trust’s director of marketing and development.
This year, the Trust has added two regional, family-owned craft beer and wine makers to select dates. Sobel’s Obscure Brewery of Jeannette and Bella Terra Vineyards of Hunker will be on hand June 24 and July 8 and 15.
“We’ve worked hard this year to create a diverse and well- rounded lineup of musicians to include returning favorites and new acts to be discovered,” said Trust CEO April Kopas. “With support from our corporate partners, we are able to welcome the community back to Greensburg Garden & Civic Center to experience an incredible showcase of local talent.”
Trust members will have access to reserved seating. Memberships are available beginning at $50, Benford said. Other seating will be first-come, first-served on available lawn space.
Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket. No outside food or beverages will be permitted.
Those wishing to attend should register at westmorelandculturaltrust.org beginning the Monday before each week’s show.
