Artists Becky Mormack of Unity and Nancy Rusbosin of Hempfield often paint en plein air in their respective neighborhoods.

Their outdoor scenes and many other paintings are on display in “Hope,” an exhibit running through July 28 in the Greensburg Art Center.

Many attendees at a July 8 opening reception perused the gallery in search of familiar scenes.

Jerome Yandrick stood in front of “Peaceful Moment at the Yandrick’s,” Mormack’s depiction of a stream on his Unity property. He said Mormack also has painted his stone farmhouse on several occasions.

Hempfield Supervisor Doug Weimer pointed out Rusbosin’s painting of the entrance to Hempfield’s Mt. Vernon Plan, where he lives.

The exhibit is more than a tribute to the beauty of the Westmoreland County landscape. The artists are donating a portion of sales to the work of a Nigerian woman, Olutosin Oladosu Adebowale.

Adebowale is an artist who has created a number of programs to aid people in her community. She teaches young women to create art so that they can support themselves and provides clothing and food to elderly women in need.

She teaches farming and has helped to build a school and a factory.

“We loved her mission,” Rusbosin told reception guests. “Our lives are about giving, not receiving.”

Seen at the event: Ed Kelly, John Mormack, Zachary Mormack, Greg Zoldak, Derrick Barker, Marcy Mormack with kids Charlotte and Jack, Ed and Theresa Rusbosin, Richard and Eileen Stoner, Jerry Scorpion, Sue Pollins, Rosemary Sovyak, Marcy Koynok, Barbara Ferrier, John and Debbie Caringola, Maddie Morrison, Kim Morrison, Scott and Janet Anderson, Katie Yandrick, Phil and Mary Ellen Raneri, Michaelene McWhinney, Vince and Jeanne Siecinski, Chris and Kate James, Debbie King, Tami Krusper and Jerry and Jan Smith.
