Out & About: Greensburg Art Center hosts members' Christmas party
Greensburg Art Center President Jerry Scorpion took a moment to reflect on the past year, during the Dec. 11 members’ Christmas party at the Hempfield gallery and educational facility.
It’s been a good one in terms of growth in both membership and class attendance.
“The clay classes are going through the roof,” he said. “Our outreach is growing to artists in more and more areas.”
During 2021, the center hosted exhibitions of plein air paintings and works that revealed the artists’ moments of inspiration, along with the recently concluded “Art of GIFTing” annual holiday show and sale.
Partygoers had one last chance to shop for “GIFTing” items, with the incentive of a 10% discount.
Inviting those assembled to fill plates at the center’s signature buffet of homemade heavy appetizers, Scorpion deadpanned, “There’s probably not enough good food here — you might have to go to McDonald’s.”
Another table was laden with cookies, fudge, cupcakes and other sweet endings.
For fun, there was a gift exchange; a “Name that Line” game, matching quotes to the proper holiday movie; and a jingle bell toss — think beer pong, only with mini-red Solo cups assembled in Christmas tree shapes and little gold bells to toss.
“It’s ‘bell pong,’ ” explained Rosemary Sovyak.
A round of applause went to Tami Krusper for organizing the event and to Donna Kantorik for providing table centerpieces.
