Out & About: Lincoln Highway SupperMarket solves dinner dilemma
It’s a summer hump day afternoon, you’re on your way home from work and you don’t feel like cooking dinner.
What to do?
If you’re in the vicinity of the Lincoln Highway Experience, you can stop in for SupperMarket.
The weekly food and music event takes over the grounds of the Unity museum, offering a la carte dinner, snack and sweet options from a variety of local food purveyors.
It’s not always a convenient stop along the way, though. For some folks, it’s a destination.
“We’ve been coming every week for a couple of years,” said Gwen Maurer, who came from Johnstown on Aug. 2 with her husband, Randall. “We do a countdown to the day.
“There’s nothing like this over there in Johnstown.”
The Maurers and others had their pick of good eats, such as tacos and tabbouleh salad from Simply Good of Fairfield; grilled pizza from Connections Cafe in Ligonier; pork and sauerkraut, German potato salad and more from Chef Dato’s Table in Derry Township; and baked ziti and more from Aroma Italiano in Latrobe.
Singer/songwriter Tim Bush of Greensburg serenaded the crowd with a play list of classic rock favorites.
Guests were greeted by Kim Cady, executive director of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, which operates the site, and volunteer Ellen Piper.
Seen: Travis and Stacey McClellan, Lester Smith, Gert Tatananni, Walter and Miriam Seigfried, Joe and Debbie Bulava, Ron Rohall and Theresa Gay Rohall, Brian and Kathy Huber, Mark and Joyce Markosky, Jamie and Jenny Muir, Chuck and Virginia Johnson, Ray and Jaynee Weaver, Roy and Teena Culbert and Jack and Christine Harnicar.
SupperMarket continues Wednesdays through Aug. 30, weather permitting. For details, visit lhhc.org.
