Out & About: Pitt-Greensburg alumni make merry at holiday gathering

Ugly sweaters were the garment of choice at the Pitt-Greensburg Alumni Association’s Merry Mingle, held Dec. 2 in Millstein Library at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.
Alumna Kim McLeod poked fun at cross-state rival Penn State by wearing the tinsel-embellished likeness of former football coach Joe Paterno.
Lee Garsteck chose a sequined Christmas tree with out-sized googly eyes.
Campus President Robert Gregerson even got in the holiday spirit, sporting a sweater inspired by the infamous leg lamp of “A Christmas Story” movie fame.
It was all part of a festive evening that included food and beverages, door prizes, prize boxes and games.
Though group members enjoy social gatherings and participation in homecoming and graduation, they also serve a more serious purpose.
They help promote the university and mentor current students by helping them acclimate to campus life and then preparing for life after graduation, said Alumni Engagement Officer Julia Sefcheck.
“We take a big interest in their success,” said alumnus Chris Luccy. “We help them focus on what it takes to succeed, like applying for jobs and understanding economics.”
They even go as far as conducting mock interviews with students prior to job interviews, added alumnus Tim Dugan.
About 50 alums and guests mingled in the library.
