A century later, the Roaring 20s still have plenty of allure.

On Saturday night, guys and dolls put on their glad rags, hopped in their jalopies and headed for Stratigos Banquet Centre for The Lamp Theatre’s fifth annual gala.

The theme was Black Tie & Pearls: A Roaring 2os Affair, with the North Huntingdon venue decked out in black and gold for the spiffy event. Many of the 250 guests got into the spirit of the event by arriving in vintage-style attire.

Members of 3 River Model A Ford Club provided atmosphere by parking their flivvers outside.

Inside, there was cocktail hour entertainment by the Kenny Blake Trio and FitnessEnvi acrobatic performers Aubrey Worek, Jackie Sobel, Angela Concannon and Candice Kaminski.

John Gdula, board president of the Irwin theater, gave a pre-dinner welcome.

Following the meal, there was more revelry, with DJ Tim of Gitano Productions spinning dance tunes, and dessert, live and basket auctions. Auctioneer was Darin Cole.

Gala committee member and board vice president Terri Yurcisin said the Roaring 20s theme originally was planned for the 2020 gala, which was canceled about a week beforehand as the pandemic shutdown descended.

Proceeds from the gala support operations of the downtown Irwin performing arts center, which opened as a nonprofit in 2016. The original Lamp Theatre operated from 1937 until 2004 as a family-owned, single-screen movie theater.

A volunteer group worked for more than 10 years to procure funding to renovate and reopen the theater.

Gala committee members included Christine Adams, Denise Bowen, Christina Gibbs, Christy Gordon, Cheryl Harper, Linda Kovach, Gretchen Laux, Robie Shoff and Rita Windsor.
