Senior students from four disciplines came together to exhibit works from their digital media professional capstone project at Saint Vincent College.

Their work is showing through May 5 in the Verostko Center for the Arts on the Unity campus, where an April 19 opening reception drew a large crowd.

“Collectively taken, this cohort of seniors produced projects that engage the parts of ourselves that are often left unspoken,” said the center’s Director/Curator Andrew Julo. “The videos, paintings and websites that comprise the exhibit are evidence of students’ ability to use both digital and analog tools in the service of narrating ideas of deep personal significance.”

In his 2½-minute, self-titled film, communications major Will Radan of Derry said he answered the questions, “Who are you?” and “What do you do?”

Fellow communications major Brandon Hallick of East McKeesport attended the reception dressed in a bright blue coverall, pushing a color-coordinated mop and bucket as a contemplation of identity.

“I was thinking of something that fades into the background, like a janitor,” he said — only to be surprised at the attention he drew.

In addition to Radan and Hallick the exhibit features work by communication majors Kendall Jansoko of East McKeesport, Joan Lickona of Rochester, N.Y., Sarah Mott of Greensburg and Genevieve LaFosse and Hannah Noel, both of Latrobe; digital art and media majors Carly Bodner of New Alexandria, Keegan Burd of Latrobe and Miriam-Moira Donovan of Winchester, Va.; sports and media majors Luke Mich of Downingtown, Brennan Valladares of Eighty Four and Iven Etienne of Miami, Fla.; and studio art major Julia Mathais of York.

It’s the first time work by students in the four majors has been formally shown in one exhibit, said David Safin, chairman of the department of communication and an associate professor.
