The Penn-Trafford Drama Guild isn’t searching for her glass slipper, but members are soliciting donations of gently used prom, homecoming or other special occasion shoes for a shoe drive at the high school’s spring musical “Footloose.”
Penn-Trafford’s high school thespians will present the beloved story of youthful rebellion, and righteous dance moves, March 27 to 29 and April 3 to 5 at the Penn-Trafford Performing Arts Center.
Drama Guild spokeswoman Lori Jakiela said students and parents were brainstorming for a project that would promote the spring musical and do something positive for the community when one mother suggested a prom shoe drive.
“We thought about a prom gown drive, but everyone does that. Then one mother came up with a prom shoe drive. They spend a lot of money on these shoes to wear once. So we decided it would be a good idea to collect gently used prom shoes,” Jakiela said.
The shoes will be donated to Blessings Boutique, a no-cost community resource located in the Norwin Christian Church that offers new and gently used clothing and items to those in need.
Anyone who donates a pair of shoes will receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win an ’80s-themed “Footloose” gift basket.
Friday and Saturday performances of “Footloose” begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinee performances start at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $13 for adults and $11 for senior citizens and students with ID. Tickets are on sale at pthsdramaguild.com/tickets and at the high school lobby on Tuesdays through March 31 and March 26 and April 2 from 6:30-8 p.m.
