Video shows car speed through intersection during police pursuit of Pittsburgh man on Route 22
Nina Hamm was driving Wednesday through the intersection of Cline Hollow Road and Route 22 in Murrysville after a stop at the Milkshake Factory when another car sped through a red light, missing her vehicle by inches.
Hamm, 30, of Murrysville, said she was driving slower than usual, enjoying her milkshake, when the driver of the vehicle being sought by police darted in front of her.
“I really think that milkshake saved my life,” she said. “I really think God was on my side.”
Rahman D. Terry, 27, of Pittsburgh’s Fairywood neighborhood, was driving the car that fled state police after they observed him in a drug transaction in a Walmart parking lot in Salem about 1:30 p.m., according to a criminal complaint.
After several unsuccessful attempts by police to stop Terry’s vehicle, he drove off, traveling west on Route 22 at high speeds and weaving in and out of traffic, the complaint said.
Hamm did not see Terry’s vehicle until it was right in front of her.
“I feel like it kind of just happened that fast,” she said. “I didn’t hear any sirens or anything, so it was just kind of right in front of me all of a sudden.”
Terry eventually drove over a median near the 4000 block of Route 22 in Murrysville and began heading west in the eastbound lane.
He was pursued by state troopers, Murrysville police and Westmoreland County detectives. No one was hurt.
The chase ended with a PIT maneuver, when an officer uses their vehicle to push a fleeing vehicle sideways.
Terry was taken into custody, and state police say they found a vacuum-sealed bag with about 1,000 bags of heroin in his vehicle.
Terry was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Cheryl Peck-Yakopec. Bond was set at $300,000, and he is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 13.
