State police are looking for help to identify a man accused of stealing a wallet at the Hempfield Walmart on Nov. 13.

State police are looking for help from the public to identify a man who they say took a woman’s wallet from the Hempfield Walmart store and lied to her that he had it.

Troopers said the woman used the self checkout at 10 p.m. Nov. 13 when she forgot her wallet on top of the machine and headed to the exit. She quickly realized and went back to the self checkout she used and asked a man and woman there if they saw it. The pair told her no, police said.

But when troopers looked at surveillance footage, the man was seen putting the wallet in his jacket pocket as he got to the same self checkout. Troopers said the woman who was with him didn’t appear to notice.

“As the male exits the store, you can see the victim’s wallet hanging out of his jacket pocket,” troopers said.

The pair left in an older model two-door red Jeep Wrangler. Police could not get a license plate number. Anyone with information on his identity is asked to call state police in Greensburg at 724-832-3288.
