A Unity man was arrested this week after state police said he broke into a personal care home, threatened a worker and demanded she perform a sex act, according to court papers.

The worker told police she heard footsteps around 2 a.m. Sept. 25 inside Kelly’s II Personal Care Home in Unity and thought one of her elderly charges had gotten out of bed. But instead she came upon a man later identified as Ryan D. Hoover, 35, according to court papers.

In addition to making the threats, he asked her for help finding a vehicle he lost, police said. He left through the front door, which was unlocked in case emergency personnel needed to respond there, and walked away yelling.

Troopers said they weren’t able to find him. But they did find a red Honda Civic parked nearby. Records found inside contained Hoover’s name. Troopers said they showed a photo of him to the worker, who confirmed it was the man who had been inside the facility.

Hoover was arraigned Wednesday on charges including burglary, criminal trespass and terroristic threats. He is free on $25,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 1.

He did not have an attorney listed in online court records and could not be reached.
