If you like pina coladas … getting caught in the torte. Prantl’s is the bakery you’re looking for.
The popular bakery has a new burnt almond torte flavor — pina colada.
“We are always looking for ways to expand the Prantl’s torte family,” said John Felice, the bakery’s owner. “We’ve got chocolate torte, torte bars and torte cups, so this is another innovative way to use the secret Prantl’s torte recipe.”
The latest has yellow cake, split and loaded with a pineapple filling, iced with the bakery’s signature white butter cream and covered in toasted coconut.
There is no alcohol, Felice said.
“It has an outstanding taste,” he said.
An 8-by-8 square inch cake is $27.99.
The cake will be available at the Greensburg and Shadyside locations, but it’s best to order ahead of time, Felice said. The Downtown Pittsburgh store is temporarily closed. People can also have the dessert shipped.
“Our tortes are very well known not just here but across the country,” he said. “Almonds are a very healthy and nutritious snack so we are taking these to new heights with a snack pack that will be coming.”
He also said while experimenting with new tasty offerings they are discussing possible additional locations.
“We try to stay ahead of the curve,” he said. “People love sweets and we want to satisfy that demand will new offerings all the time. When people are eating cake and cookies, they are happy.”
The burnt almond torte cake, created by Henry Prantl, has been named the “Best Cake in America,” by the Huffington Post, the “Best of Wedding Cakes,” by the Knot in 2018 and the “Best Cake in Pennsylvania” by the Food Network in 2018.
