Penn Township environmental group Protect PT will hold a pollution monitoring workshop at its offices May 16.

The workshop will cover ways residents can monitor air quality and noise levels around their home.

The organization will introduce new air particulate monitors it purchased from the company PurpleAir.

Protect PT began air and noise monitoring in response to unconventional natural gas drilling — also known as fracking.

There are more than a dozen fracking well sites in various stages of development in Penn Township, all of them opposed by Protect PT.

“We are excited to introduce our new PurpleAir monitors to our community and show our progress on our noise monitoring study,” Protect PT executive director Gillian Graber said in a statement. “We aim to provide the best possible resources and education for residents to protect themselves and their families.”

The workshop starts 6:30 p.m. at the Protect PT office, 3344 Route 130, Suite D, Harrison City.

Residents interested in attending can register online at bit.ly/monitoring411.
