A 75-year-old man may have been under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly caused two crashes Sunday on State Route 31 in South Huntingdon, according to police reports.
State troopers said the suspect was driving his SUV eastbound on Route 31, or Mt. Pleasant Road, just after 3 p.m. when he crossed into the westbound lane, sideswiping a car containing two people.
The car’s occupants refused treatment after being evaluated by Mutual Aid, according to police reports.
Troopers said the SUV driver continued east near Mendon, where he hit another vehicle head-on a few minutes later, injuring two people in another car.
All three people in the second accident, including the 75-year-old man, were hospitalized. Two were flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh with suspected minor injuries.
One person was taken via ambulance to Excela Health Westmoreland hospital, according to police reports.
Troopers said the driver of the SUV may also be charged with hit and run. The newspaper is not identifying him because charges have not yet been filed.
