Sheetz seeking 800 employees for Pennsylvania stores

Convenience store chain Sheetz Inc. is competing with other stores, restaurants and businesses that are looking to add to their workforce, only it is hoping to attract about 800 employees for its more than 300 stores across the state, the company said Thursday.

Sheetz said it will have a hiring day at its stores from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 27, with the opportunity for prospective employees who have applied online at jobs.sheetz.com to have an on-the-spot interview, the company said. During these hiring events, those interested in working at Sheetz can learn about the company, how they can have sustainable careers and what Sheetz said is its method of “disrupting the convenience category as we know it.”

If the hiring is spread across its stores in Pennsylvania, Sheetz would be adding only two or three employees at each of its stores. Sheetz did not specify the kinds of jobs it is seeking to fill at the March 27 hiring event.

Nick Ruffner, a Sheetz spokesman, could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Sheetz said it offers competitive pay and benefits packages to all employees, but it did not specify a salary range for the jobs it wants to fill at its stores, which are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to offering health insurance and dental insurance, the company also has an employee stock ownership plan.

At the same time, the Altoona-based company will hold hiring events on March 27 at its more than 400 stores in the other five states — West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina — where it operates. It wants to hire about 2,200 employees throughout the company’s six-state footprint. Sheetz said it has more than 25,000 employees.
