A South Huntingdon man was jailed Friday on $250,000 bail on state police accusations that he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.

Thomas Howard Sherbondy, 45, was arraigned Friday on charges including rape of a child, indecent assault and corruption of minors.

Troopers said in court papers that the accusations were reported through ChildLine in August. Analysis of the girl’s cellphone showed text messages between her and Sherbondy and pornographic videos he requested from her, according to court papers.

She told investigators Sherbondy sexually assaulted her multiple times and provided her with sex toys, alcohol and marijuana, police said. Troopers served search warrants at Sherbondy’s Mt. Pleasant Road home Thursday, seized his cellphone and other items and took him into custody.

Sherbondy didn’t have an attorney listed in online court records. He was being held at the Westmoreland County Prison. An Oct. 15 preliminary hearing is set.
