Spirit Airlines plans to resume daily flights from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity to Myrtle Beach, S.C., in May, an airport official said Tuesday.

The daily flights from the county airport to Myrtle Beach International Airport will resume May 7, said Gabe Monzo, executive director of the Westmoreland County Airport Authority.

Spirit typically has resumed flights in the spring. Last year, the airline provided twice-daily service to Myrtle Beach from Sept. 5 to Oct. 31.

The only scheduled carrier serving the airport, Spirit currently offers four weekly flights to Orlando, Fla.

The airport authority said signs indicate that the public’s interest has not waned and the airline has begun scheduling the return of flights to some of its more popular destinations.

The announcement comes as Spirit, which in November filed for bankruptcy protection from its creditors, has a reorganization plan in bankruptcy court that has yet to be approved.

The Allegheny County Airport Authority, which operates Pittsburgh International Airport in Findlay, filed documents in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York City on Monday to be part of a 15-airport consortium in the Spirit bankruptcy case. The Westmoreland County Airport Authority is not among those airport operators listed in the bankruptcy court proceedings.

A hearing to confirm Spirit Airlines’ reorganization plan is scheduled for Feb. 13 in bankruptcy court in New York.
