Streets in two Westmoreland County communities are set to be improved after project approvals by their respective city councils last week.

In Greensburg, three contracts were awarded. Donegal Construction Corp. will handle $46,000 worth of paving through a partnership with Peoples Gas, city administrator Kelsye Milliron said. Mele & Mele was awarded two contracts totaling $33,000 for liquid fuels street paving and milling of the parking lots at city hall and Greensburg Hose Company No. 1 on McLaughlin Drive, she said.

The two firms were the lowest bidders. Five firms submitted bids for the projects.

According to information provided by Milliron, streets set to be improved include: Wood, Kenneth, Meadow, Sells, Pennsylvania, Kenlane, South Spring, South, Alexander, Harrison, Liberty, Culbertson, Morrison, Spruce, Stone, Washington, Lane, State, Tremont, Underwood, Locust, Goodwin, McArthur, Lemington, South Maple, East Third, Alwine and East Fourth. Some streets will only have certain sections paved.

In Jeannette, a $209,244 contract was awarded to Tresco Paving Corp.

The firm was the lowest bidder of six companies that submitted bids for the city’s paving project. Engineer Ed Antonacci said two streets are included in the project at the moment — Michigan Avenue between Park and Grove streets and Washington Avenue between Vine and Locust streets. It was unclear if more streets will be added.
