A Trafford man was sentenced to state prison this week in connection with a violent assault on his estranged girlfriend.

Alfred H. Tournay III, 56, was sentenced to 6 1/2 to 13 years. He was ordered to pay $4,077 in restitution to one of the neighbors and $1,000 to the estranged girlfriend.

The prison term will be followed by one year of supervision. He was given credit for 1,067 days served since his arrest.

Tournay was convicted in May of 12 counts, including aggravated assault and terroristic threats. He was acquitted of three felony aggravated assault charges in connection with attacks on two neighbors. Jurors deliberated for about five hours.

Prosecutors said Tournay violently attacked his live-in girlfriend on Dec. 17, 2020. She had multiple facial injuries, according to trial testimony.

The neighbor was threatened when she was starting her vehicle to head out to work that morning. Tournay followed her to her home, kicked in the front door, punched her in the face three times and hit her 70-year-old husband with his cane, according to testimony.
