A veteran catches a fish at the 2018 fly fishing event at Foggy Mountain Lodge in Cook, which was sponsored by the Forbes Trail Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

Veterans, including those who are disabled, will have the opportunity to fish for trout, bass and panfish at a Derry Township sportsman’s club.

The Oct. 2 event will be held at the Kingston Veterans Sportsmen Association at its facilities along Route 217.

The Forbes Trail Chapter of Trout Unlimited will have mentors and volunteers to help the veterans, plus fishing gear and bait for those who will need it. Spinning rods will be available for those who do not want to fly fish, said Larry Myers, Trout Unlimited president.

The organization is reserving 30 seats until Sept. 1 for veterans with disabilities, he said.

A Pennsylvania fishing license is not required. Lunch and beverages will be provided.

The organization hopes to get most of those interested to register by Sept. 1, with the deadline set for Sept. 17. To register, visit www.forbestrailtu.org. and provide name and contact information.
