A Unity man who was severely injured in a head-on collision Monday in Ligonier Township has died.
Colin Keough, 18, who lived on American Legion Road, was pronounced dead Tuesday in the intensive care unit at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, according to Cambria County Coroner Jeffrey Lees.
Keough died of multiple blunt force trauma, Lees said.
Lees said Keough was flown to the Johnstown hospital after his northbound Porsche collided with a southbound Chevrolet Suburban SUV on Route 711.
Keough’s sister, Kelsey Keough, said her brother liked working at the Town and Country Ford dealership in Ligonier Township. A 2024 graduate of Greater Latrobe Senior High, he studied collision repair at the local career and technology center, she said.
“He loved cars, and he always enjoyed driving his Porsche 944,” she said.
Posting about her family’s loss on social media, she said her brother “had a deep passion for riding both his dirt bike and his motorcycle. I like to think that right now, in heaven, he’s riding his motorcycle and doing the things he loved.
“He was such a great brother to me. Whenever I would see Colin, he was always so happy, kind and full of love and laughter. I’ll never forget his smile.”
“This is incredibly hard for me and my family, as it is for everybody,” she said. “We are all here for one another in these difficult times.”
Ligonier Valley police Chief Mike Matrunics, who is investigating the crash, said all occupants of the SUV have been released after being taken to hospitals on Monday.
According to authorities, one of five children who were in car seats in the SUV was flown from the crash site near the Mutual Aid Ambulance station to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. The other children and driver Amy Blythe, 34, of Ligonier, were taken by ambulance for treatment.
Matrunics said Wednesday morning a volunteer group was continuing efforts to find CiCi, a pet dog who was in the Suburban and has been sighted running loose and crossing Route 711 in the vicinity of the crash.
In a social media post, police urged motorists to use caution and drive slowly on the section of highway between the Ligonier Borough line and Ferry’s Automotive Service.
“The organization that is helping to catch the dog has asked for people not to chase it,” said Matrunics. “We’re hoping it calms down and goes into one of their traps.”
