The Westmoreland County Election Board this week issued a final certification of results from five voting precincts subjected to a court-ordered recount.

Voters from precincts in Salem, Hempfield, Loyalhanna, Lower Burrell and Ligonier Borough petitioned the courts to recount votes cast as part of the Nov. 8 general election for governor and U.S. Senate.

Voters contended, without evidence, there was fraud and other improprieties during the election and demanded county officials recount the tallies by hand.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Harry Smail Jr. ordered county election officials to conduct a machine recount of all mail-in and Election Day votes.

County officials said the recounts resulted in no major deviations from totals reported immediately following Election Day.
