Westmoreland County averaging 30% of covid cases it had a month ago

Westmoreland County is averaging about 30% of the number covid cases it was seeing a month ago.

The county added 93 additional covid-19 cases Tuesday, according to the state Department of Health, bringing its seven-day average of covid cases to 78 cases per day. A month ago, Westmoreland County was averaging 259 cases per day.

The seven-day covid cases average has remained below 100 since Jan. 31.

Of the newly reported cases, 23 are confirmed, which makes about 25% of cases reported Tuesday. Total covid cases in Westmoreland County are now 25,432, with 729 cases reported in February.

Six covid deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the death total to 642. There have been 37 deaths reported in February.

Covid hospitalizations in the county were 127 as of Tuesday. That number has dropped or stayed the same from the previous day since Jan. 29, when it was 148. The number of patients hospitalized for covid-19 in Westmoreland County peaked this year on Jan. 8, when 184 individuals were hospitalized.
