Westmoreland County Community College’s next president will take office in July.

The WCCC board of trustees voted unanimously Monday to hire Kristin Mallory, vice president for academic affairs at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, Md.

Selected from about 150 applicants, Mallory will start a three-year term July 1 with a salary of $240,000. David Devier, former president for a Michigan community college, will serve as interim president.

Mallory was part of the accreditation team that evaluated the college two years ago. As a result, said board Chair Bridget Johnston, she is familiar with the school’s inner workings.

“She’s seen our curricula, our policies, our compliances with federal and state agencies. She’s read our financial audits, and she even knows a lot of our staff and trustees, as she had to interview many of them two years ago,” Johnston said.

“We ask that the entire college family and the community at large welcome Dr. Mallory as she leads us into the future.”

Mallory will be the fourth leader the Hempfield-based school has had in a year.

After a decade on the job, former President Tuesday Stanley announced in October 2023 she would resign the following summer. Stanley left the post in June, staying on as a consultant until December at a $36,000 salary with benefits.

Kristy Bishop, the college’s vice president of academic affairs, took over as interim president in June. Devier recently started as interim president, after Bishop departed for a job with the Middle State Commission on Higher Education.

Mallory will work with Devier and Stanley as she transitions to the position, Johnston said.

Trustee John Wright suggested Mallory visit the college soon to meet with students and staff.

“Everybody knows there’s a lot of tension,” Wright said, referring to the presidential search. “We’ve done our due diligence. We have now hired a president, so let’s get her here and let’s get her introduced and let’s all move forward.”
