Tim Carson is seeking a second term as Westmoreland County coroner.

Carson, 53, a Republican from Scottdale, won the four-year seat in 2021. In an announcement about his candidacy, Carson pointed to strides he said he has made in modernizing the office after he took the reins.

He also touted several initiatives in seeking re-election, such as advancing efforts to encourage organ and tissue donation, establishing the Cribs for Kids program to encourage safe sleeping practices, creating a team that assists families after deaths by suicide and spearheading the interment of unclaimed cremains, including those of 15 veterans.

The coroner’s office in 2023 investigated 3,120 deaths and oversaw nearly 120 autopsies.

The position pays $85,840.

“Over the past four years, I have worked to expand the services of the coroner’s office and am really proud of what we have accomplished,” he said in the announcement.

Carson is owner of Carson’s Premier Catering in Scottdale.
