Westmoreland County covid averages continue decline, lowest since October

Covid case averages continue to decline in Westmoreland County, according to new data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

As of Tuesday, the seven-day average of cases was 62 and seven-day case count was 436 in the county. Those numbers are the lowest since October, when the seven-day average was 57 cases and the seven-day case count was 398.

On Feb. 16, the seven-day case average was 80 and seven-day case count was 561.

Westmoreland saw 78 additional covid-19 cases and two deaths reported Tuesday. That marked the 20th consecutive day reported covid cases were below 100.

Total cases are now 26,429, with 1,726 cases reported in February. Total deaths are now 666, with 61 reported in February.

Hospitalizations of covid-19 patients increased slightly over the past two days, going from 112 hospitalized Sunday to 115 on Tuesday in the county. It is the first instance of Westmoreland hospitalizations increasing over a two-day span in February. The number of hospitalizations has generally declined since starting the month with 141, the month’s peak.
