Westmoreland County had 47 additional covid cases Tuesday, according to the state Department of Health.

The new reported cases were 25 confirmed and 22 probable.

That marks the third day cases have been at or below 50. A similar two-day trend was seen last week, when on Feb. 21 (Sunday) and Feb. 22 (Monday) there were 50 and 26 cases reported, respectively.

Total cases in the county now stand at 26,864.

Health officials define a probable case as one in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or covid symptoms with a “high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.

One additional covid-related death was reported Tuesday, bringing the Westmoreland County death total to 673. There have been zero or single digits reported each day since Jan. 20 when 12 were reported.

Covid hospitalizations in the county increased to 116 as of Tuesday, up five from Monday. Prior to Tuesday, it had been about two weeks since hospitalizations surpassed 115 patients, as numbers appeared to hold during that span.
