Westmoreland County reports similar number of covid deaths in 1st weeks of January, December

Westmoreland County on Thursday reported 279 additional covid-19 cases, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

There were six coronavirus-related deaths reported as well.

The number of total cases in the county is now at 21,003 and total deaths at 465.

Through the first seven days of the new year, Westmoreland County is averaging 239 new covid-19 cases per day. There have been 1,670 cases reported so far in January. In comparison, there were 503 covid cases reported during the first seven days of November and 2,153 cases reported over the first seven days of December.

There have be 42 covid deaths reported in the first seven days of January. In November, there were 15 deaths reported in the same time frame and 43 reported in December.

There were 181 covid-19 patients hospitalized in Westmoreland County as of Thursday, with 18 in an intensive care unit and 14 on ventilators, according to the state Department of Health. There are 22 ICU and 57 medical/surgical beds available in the county, representing 24% and 19% of their totals, respectively.
