Westmoreland County sees largest daily spike in new coronavirus cases

The 54 new covid-19 cases reported Friday in Westmoreland County is the highest daily spike since April 25, when 43 cases were announced.

Of the new cases, 52 are confirmed and two are listed as probable by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The new cases bring Westmoreland’s total to 2,353 cases since March. The county’s 7-day average is 24 cases, the highest it has been since July.

The total deaths attributed to covid-19 in the county remains at 56 for the fourth day.

The county reported 343 negative tests to take the total number of patients testing negative to 43,459.

As of Friday afternoon, Westmoreland has 10 patients hospitalized for covid-19 with three on ventilators.
