Westmoreland County set another high for new covid-19 cases Friday, marking a second straight day a record was set.

There were 412 new cases reported Friday, following Thursday’s 400 case count. In the past two days, the county has recorded more covid cases (812) than it did in its first 109 days (801).

The seven-day case count (Nov. 28 to Friday) is 1,780 and the seven-day average is 254 cases per day, both records.

Four new coronavirus-related deaths were also reported Friday, which increases the December death total to 30. In comparison, it took until May 8 for Westmoreland County to reach its first 30 covid deaths.

Total cases and total deaths in the county are now 10,455 and 299, respectively.

As of Friday, there are 137 covid-19 patients hospitalized in Westmoreland County, 18 of which are in the ICU and 10 are on a ventilator, according to data from the state Department of Health.
