Church News

• Greensburg Church of the Brethren hosts a night of fun and fellowship for individuals and groups with developmental disabilities from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the church, 554 Stanton St., Southwest Greensburg. Dinner is included. Participants must be accompanied by a family member or caregiver. Donations will be accepted. Details: 724-834-2130 or gbgcob.org.

Fundraisers

• Take-out cabbage roll dinners will be sold from 4 to 6 p.m. March 1 at Gary’s Chuckwagon, 109 Second St., West Newton. Menu: cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll with butter and dessert, $15. Tickets: 724-787-1377 or stop in at the restaurant. Proceeds will benefit the fund for a new roof at West Newton Methodist Church.

• West Newton Public Library will sponsor its annual super gift basket raffle March 16 at Turkeytown Firehall, 90 Supervisor Drive, South Huntingdon. Doors open at 11 a.m. Drawings begin at 2:30 p.m. Winners must be present. There will be tip boards, games of chance and a 50-50. Cost: $20, includes 25 general raffle tickets and a light lunch. • Norwin Lions will host its 10th annual Cubcake Wars competition and fundraiser from noon to 3 p.m. March 9 in the Norwin High School cafeteria, 251 McMahon Drive, North Huntingdon. Bakers are needed to bake cupcakes and compete in the categories of best tasting, best decorated, most funds raised and people’s choice. • Two comedy dinner nights to benefit Westmoreland County Parks, Trails and Concert Series will be at 6 p.m. March 7 and 8 at The Venue at Live Casino at Westmoreland Mall in Hempfield. There will be food, a basket auction, cash bar and 50-50. Cost: $40. Must be 21. Advance tickets required, no tickets will be sold at the door. Cash or check accepted. • Jeannette Knights of Columbus hosts bingo at 7 p.m. Fridays in Mersinger Hall at Ascension Church, 615 Division St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and early birds begin at 6:30 p.m. Players younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Smoke-free venue. Food will be available, and there will be a 50-50 and instant bingo. Details: 724-523-9244.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Union Presbyterian Church, 656 Route 380, Washington Township.

Senior Citizen News

• Irwin Senior Activity Center, 310 Oak St., will have a Pittsburgh Game Day lunch on Feb. 26. Sign up with your name, telephone number and what food you will bring by Feb. 25. The movie ”The Jackie Robinson Story” will be shown at 11:30 a.m. Donations are accepted for all activities. Details: 724-787-1760.

• A Seniors for Safe Driving class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 8 at Circleville Church of North Huntingdon, 11600 Parkway Drive. The class is PennDOT approved and for drivers who are at least 55 years old. Safe drivers can receive a 5 percent discount on auto insurance for three years. Cost: $17. Special event

• Ligonier Valley Writers is accepting entries for its 34th annual student poetry contest. Students in grades 4 through 12 throughout Western Pennsylvania are welcome to enter. There are nine categories and cash prizes awarded for first, second and third place and best in each age group. There are no entry fees. Submissions must be emailed by March 11. Entry forms and contest rules: LVWonline.org.

Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking should be emailed to cpinto-smith@triblive.com. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks prior to the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
