Church News
• Living Word Congregational Church, 2003 Ridge Road, Penn Township, will have a Second Mile prayer and communion service at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday at the church.
Fundraisers
• A takeout spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 12 at Gary’s Chuckwagon, 109 Second St., West Newton. Menu: spaghetti, meatball, tossed salad, roll, butter and dessert, $15. Proceeds will benefit the community projects of West Newton Women’s Club. Tickets: 724-872-3551 or stop in at the restaurant.
• A card and game party will be from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Greensburg Garden Center, 951 Old Salem Road. Cost: $25, includes coffee or tea, salads and dessert. There will be a basket auction. Bring your favorite card or board game. Come with friends or alone. Details: 724-837-0245.
• Jeannette American Legion will host bingo at 1 p.m. Oct. 6 at the post, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $25 per packet, includes regular and special games. Halloween
• Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Hobgoblin Hikes will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 19 at Mammoth Park. Half-mile guided hike haunted by ghouls, monsters and goblins recommended for ages 8 and older. Parents are urged to attend with children. Donations will be accepted. Rain or shine. Meeting

Music
• The Laurel Harmony Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, invites women of all ages and voice ranges to join them for an open house from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 3 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 139 N. Main St. Greensburg. Enter at the lower level side door. There will be singing with guest participation, a question-and-answer session and socializing. Senior Citizen News
• Irwin Senior Activity Center, 310 Oak St., will have a Orange Bingo at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 8. All prizes will be the color orange. A sign language class will be at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9. Donations are accepted for all activities. Details: 724-787-1760.
• A Seniors For Safe Driving course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at Connect 55+, 4000 Village Drive, Penn Township. The class is PennDOT approved and for drivers who are at least 55 years old. Those who complete the course can qualify for reduced auto insurance premiums. There is no behind-the-wheel driving. Veterans News
• Rep. Jill Cooper will host a veterans appreciation breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 19 at the Lamplighter Restaurant, 6566 William Penn Highway, Salem. Veterans who live in the 55th legislative district — Arnold, Avonmore, Bell, Delmont, Export, Loyalhanna, Murrysville, New Alexandria, New Kensington, Oklahoma, Salem, Upper Burrell, Washington Township and parts of Derry Township and Lower Burrell — are welcome.
