Westmoreland County added 45 new covid-19 cases Monday, according to a report from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The county had the third highest new case count in the state Monday, coming in behind Philadelphia (76) and Allegheny (46). In the past seven days, Westmoreland County has had 215 new cases of the virus. The county has not seen over 200 cases in a week’s time since early July.
In addition to the cases, Westmoreland County reported the first death in October, bringing the total to 57 people who have died with a coronavirus-related illness since the pandemic began in March.
The county has seen six covid-related deaths in the past two weeks.
Of Monday’s new covid cases in Westmoreland County, all but one were confirmed.
To date, the county has tested 46,686 individuals for the virus, with 5.3% (2,461) testing positive.
According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are currently 22 county residents in the hospital for the virus, with one of them on a ventilator. According to the state, there are 88 operational ventilators in the county, with 13 (14.8%) currently in use for all illnesses.
