A high school prom and reunion, set to a string of popular songs, will unfold on stage for those who purchase tickets for “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” the first production in Saint Vincent Summer Theatre’s upcoming season.

This season marks Greggory Brandt’s 10th as producing artistic director of summer theater at Saint Vincent College. With “Wonderettes,” he’ll reprise the first work he staged for the program a decade earlier.

“It will feature the same iconic songs from the 1950s and ’60s, as well as the same silly characters: Cindy Lou, Missy, Suzy and Betty Jean,” said Brandt.

An off-Broadway hit, the musical reveals the highs and lows the four friends experience during the 10-year gap between their late 1950s graduation and their class reunion.

The curtain will go up at 7:30 p.m. daily from May 28 through June 2, with 2 p.m. matinees on May 29 and June 1. Performances are in the Performing Arts Center, located in the Robert S. Carey Student Center on the college’s Unity campus.

The comedy “Unnecessary Farce” will be staged next, June 25-30. While two undercover cops trying to catch a crooked politician, confusion develops concerning who’s in which room, who’s being videotaped, who’s taken the money, who’s hired a hit man and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes.

Rounding out the season July 16-21 is “Cheek to Cheek,” a song-and-dance celebration of composer Irving Berlin’s hits for the silver screen.

Visit stvincent.edu/summertheatre for tickets. Prices start at $30, $25 for matinees.
