Winning Cash 5 ticket worth $1.35 million sold in McCandless
McCandless Giant Eagle Customer Service Manager Jean Miller had no idea that she might have sold a jackpot-winning lottery ticket Sunday at the Pine Creek Shopping Center store.
According to Pennsylvania Lottery officials, someone walked away from the McKnight Road site with a $1.35 million Cash 5 with Quick Cash ticket.
The ticket matched all five balls drawn — 1-4-18-29-31.
“Wow, I’m excited,” Miller said. “I hope it was one of my regulars.”
Giant Eagle earns a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
More than 29,500 other Cash 5 with Quick Cash tickets also won prizes in the drawing.
“As far as I know, nobody has come forward to claim it,” Miller said.
“It’s been a long while since we had a winner that big.”
Cash 5 game prizes must be claimed within one year of the drawing date.
There has been a cluster of recent big-prize lottery winners across the region.
In late June, a $1 million-winning scratch-off ticket was sold at a BP store in North Huntingdon, and a similar payout was scored at a Wilkinsburg beer distributor.
In May, another $3 million scratch-off prize and two others of $100,000 or more were claimed in neighboring Fayette County, while a $1 million prize surfaced at the UPMC Mercy Gift Shop in Pittsburgh.
Winners should sign the back of their ticket and call the Lottery at 800-692-7481.
