Officials have identified a worker who fell to his death last week at the South Park fairgrounds.
Frank ‘Frankie’ Scabilloni, 59, of Bethel Park, fell from the grounds’ agricultural building Wednesday morning.
The incident happened about 10:13 a.m. at the fairgrounds on Brownsville Road, said Lt. Venerando Costa.
The building sits about 100 feet back from Brownsville Road, surrounded by several other fairgrounds buildings and halls.
Police and paramedics arrived and found Scabilloni unresponsive, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, Costa said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness told investigators Scabilloni had left the scaffolding that was on the building and climbed onto the roof, police said. He fell backward through a skylight – about 21 feet.
Scabilloni worked for Marsa Masonry, where he was a foreman and bricklayer with 39 years of experience, according to the company website. The company had been contracted to do work on the agricultural building.
He was a father of two, according to a David Henney funeral home obituary, and a member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftsman Local 9.
Family members wrote in the obituary that Scabilloni was a lifelong member of the Jugo-Slav Club and the dart league there.
Allegheny County police have said foul play is not suspected. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office will rule on a cause and manner of death.
