● We pick our favorite MLB player prop bets to consider for today’s games
● We also provide one recommendation for MLB’s Beat the Streak contest
● Lines provided by BetMGM sportsbook
There are 11 games for Thursday’s MLB slate (April 14), and we’ve identified a few favorable baseball player prop bets on the BetMGM Sportsbook that you could consider ahead of today’s action.
We’ve also provided a recommendation for MLB’s Beat the Streak free-to-play contest.
MLB Player Prop Bet: Thursday, April 14
Mitch Haniger Over 0.5 Hits (-185)
Seattle Mariners at Chicago White Sox, 2:10pm ET
The White Sox are giving the ball to Jimmy Lambert today, who has six major league game appearances. His 2021 ERA was 6.23. He actually posted a WAR below zero last season.
The White Sox are 4-1 yet a small home dog to the Mariners today: a clear sign that a good lineup is likely not enough to overcome a bad pitcher. There are plenty of bats worth playing here, but Haniger to get a hit is relatively affordable, looking up and down the prop prices.
Factor in that Haniger is the only current Mariner to have taken more than one AB against Lambert – he’s 2-for-2 – and this becomes a solid play.
Brandon Woodruff Under 6.5 Strikeouts (-145)
St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers, 5:14pm ET
There’s a lot going on inside the cap for this prop. First of all, Woodruff is coming off a great 2021 season, but a horrific first outing last week. The Cubs chased Woodruff out of the game last week after just three and two-thirds after giving up seven runs. He has one of those hilariously out-of-whack first-week ERA’s right now: 17.18.
Obviously, that’s not going to hold, and I’d expect Woodruff to bounce back at least a little bit against St. Louis’ reanimated 2022 lineup. But Woodruff has never been a guy to post massive K numbers; he’s more of a flyball pitcher than a strikeout artist. And even with some positive regression from last week’s bad outing, it’s still quite a leap to get to seven strikeouts.
On the St. Louis side, the Cardinals’ batting lineup ranks fourth in the Majors in strikeouts. That’s a small sample size, obviously, but mixed in with Woodruff’s form and style, it’s enough of a profile for me to go ahead and play this prop.

MLB Beat the Streak Pick for Today: Thursday, April 14
Single Selection: Mookie Betts
Cincinnati Reds at Los Angeles Dodgers, 10:10 pm ET
Luis Cessa was traded from the Yanks to Cincinnati last year, where he continued to work out of the pen. He appeared in 53 seasons on the season, posting a career-best 2.51 ERA.
Cessa is getting what appears to be a spot start in LA on Thursday night, which will be his first since 2018. A spot start against the Dodgers’ lineup is enough to unsettle any pitcher – the Dodgers are -275 as of this writing – which means someone from the Dodgers lineup is likely the smartest play of the day. (Contrast this scenario against nearly any other day, where thousands of BtS players are blindly drafting Dodgers in the hope that their big bats will pay off.)
For Thursday’s pick, I’ve honed in on Mookie, who has a lifetime 5-for-13 (.385) hitting line against Cessa.
Current Streak: 3
Apr. 13: Trea Turner
Apr. 13: Ke’Bryan Hayes
Apr. 12: Ozzie Albies

MLB Player Prop Bets Frequently Asked Questions
What is an MLB Prop Bet?
MLB player prop bets allow bettors to bet online on very specific aspects of a game involving a player outcome. You might choose to bet on how many hits your favorite player will record or whether or not a game will go to extra innings.
In contrast, traditional straight bets often allow bettors to take a position on games in ways that are commonly mentioned by gambling media and analysts. Common markets you may have heard of include the total or MLB run lines. Generally speaking, they are bets on the overall outcome of a game.
Exploring the MLB props page at your favorite online sportsbook is the best way to discover all the different types of props.
MLB Baseball Player Prop Bets
While there are a seemingly infinite number of potential MLB prop bets, the most popular are often player props that revolve around basic stat accumulation for star players. Things like:
“Will Trea Turner record at least two hits?”
“Will Max Scherzer throw more than 6.5 strikeouts?”
“Will Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run?”
Many player props are centered around betting whether or not a specific player will record over or under a specific number on a given baseball statistic.
These player props are great options in online sports betting for those who want to isolate their wager to one specific player, rather than gamble on the collective performance of a team. If you don’t like any of today’s MLB odds, you can always consider the player prop market.
What is the Most Popular MLB Player Prop Bet?
The top 10 most popular MLB player prop bet types are:
1. Over/Under Home Runs by a player
2. How many strikeouts by a pitcher
3. Over/Under Hits by a player
4. Over/Under RBIs by a player
5. How many outs with the starting pitcher record?
6. How many total runs will a player record?
7. Over/Under Doubles by a player
8. Over/Under Singles by a player
9. How many stolen bases with a player record?
10. How many total bases will a player record?
You can bet any individual category as a single prop bet. Just take a look at the MLB standings, select a team, isolate a player and pick your prop.
MLB Team Prop Bets
Unlike individual player props, MLB team prop bets are wagers on a specific element of a team’s performance. Rather than betting on a team’s game outcome with a total or run line, some bettors might choose to bet on a more granular detail of a game.
For instance, in a game between the Mets and Phillies, one bettor may choose to wager on which team will score first, or whether there will be a run scored in the first inning.
Much like the extensive marketplace for player props, there are a seemingly infinite number of team props available for savvy bettors. The best way to discover them all is by exploring the MLB Props page.
