Conneaut Lake Park is scheduled to reopen over Memorial Day weekend, but some of its iconic rides will be out of operation this season.
The Blue Streak and Tumble Bug won’t run this year, according to the Meadville Tribune.
“(The Tumble Bug) will not be in use this year, as it needs a lot of repairs to ensure its safety,” according to a post on the park’s Facebook page. “This will take some time. We do intend to keep it and have it up and running next year.”
That same post says the park’s intention is to keep the Devil’s Den and the Carousel.
“Our goal is not to demolish the history of the park, but rather to find the ideal balance of old and new.”
The Blue Streak, which dates to 1938, is one of the nation’s oldest wooden rollercoasters. According to Coasterpedia, Leap-the-Dips at Lakemont Park in Altoona is the oldest, having started in 1902. Kennywood’s Jack Rabbit, which opened in 1920, is tied for fifth oldest.
Keldon Holdings LLC paid $1.2 million in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the park and its assets in March. Conneaut Lake Park, which wasn’t open last year, has operated as an amusement park since 1892, when it was known as Exposition Park.
