Fears of coronavirus are resetting the political calendar in Pennsylvania and across the nation as the 2020 presidential election nears.

Officials with the Democratic National Committee announced Thursday the party’s presidential nominating convention, previously scheduled for July 13 in Milwaukee, is rescheduled for Aug. 17.

That announcement came as the Pennsylvania Department of State reiterated it extended deadlines for voter registration and mail-in ballots for the 2020 primary election recently moved from April 28 to June 2.

Registered voters may now request mail-in ballots, available to all voters under last year’s sweeping election reform act, until 5 p.m. May 26. Voters can apply for main-in ballots online, by mail or in person.

Voters then have until 8 p.m. June 2 to return completed ballots to the county election office, either in person or by mail.

And those who have not registered now have until May 18 to register to vote in the June 2 primary.
