Pennsylvania adds 898 coronavirus cases, 39 deaths

Pennsylvania reported 39 deaths attributed to covid-19 Wednesday, the highest reported in a single day since 39 were reported June 25.
Those deaths bring the state’s total to 8,062, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The state also added 898 new coronavirus cases, bringing that total to 152,544.
The state’s highest single-day total of newly reported deaths was May 5 when 554 deaths were added to the total.
Of the deaths reported Wednesday, three are from June, three are from July, one is from August and 32 are from September. Of those deaths, three were reported from Allegheny County, two from Beaver and one each from Armstrong and Butler.
Allegheny County had the most new cases in Southwestern Pennsylvania with 46 new positive results to bring the county’s total to 11,867. Here’s how the rest of the region fared, with total cases and growth from Tuesday:
- Armstrong: 424 (+3)
- Beaver: 1,845 (+6)
- Butler: 1,024 (+6)
- Fayette: 778 (+3)
- Indiana: 668 (+15)
- Somerset: 211 (+5)
- Washington: 1,310 (+18)
- Westmoreland: 2,135 (+39)
Across the state, Philadelphia had the most new cases with 146, followed by Lancaster (93), Centre (47), Allegheny (46) and Delaware (40).
According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there are currently 421 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the state. The state has 4,966 ventilators, with 1,080 currently in use, but only 54 by covid-19 patients.
There are 22,331 residents and 4,893 employees of nursing and personal care home who have been diagnosed with covid-19. Residents in those homes have accounted for 5,360 of the state’s deaths.
