YORK, Pa. — A man attempted to rob a Wells Fargo bank branch in West Manchester Wednesday morning, then waited for authorities to arrive, West Manchester Township Police said.

About 11:30 a.m. Nov. 27, the suspect allegedly jumped over the counter and grabbed money out of the register before throwing the money on the floor and sitting in a chair in the lobby, said Police Chief John Snyder.

“This is the strangest thing I’ve seen in a while,” Snyder said. “I don’t understand why a person would attempt to rob a bank and then throw money down and sit and wait for us to arrive.”

The suspect was arrested by police at the bank, located at the 1400 block of Loucks Road, shortly after they arrived.

Police identified the man as Ricky Magic Johnson, 29, of the York area, in a Thursday, Nov. 28 news release. A home address was not listed in court records.

Johnson was charged with robbery that threatened immediate serious injury and robbery from a financial institution, court records state.

As of Thursday, Johnson remained in York County Prison on $50,000 bail, according to records.

Johnson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14, records state.

All the money was recovered, according to the Thursday news release.

Nobody was injured and no weapons were visibly found on the suspect, Snyder said Wednesday.

Snyder said he was unsure of a motive.
