Louis retained his title in a technical knockout over Schmeling in 2:04 of the first round of their scheduled fifteen round title bout.

With Mickey Mantles retirement before the 1969 season, one of the last links to the glory days of the 1950s and early 1960s was gone from the lineup. Here the Mick hangs up his uniform in the Yankee Stadium locker room on Mickey Mantle Day, June 8, 1969. The Yankees retired his number 7 on this day. The Micks 536 career home runs remains the record for a switch-hitter. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, 1974.
