It’s the end of an era.

One of the most well-known companies in the country no longer has a Camp Hill address. Rite Aid, the long-time East Pennsboro-based pharmaceutical chain has official moved its headquarters to Philadelphia.

On Wednesday, Rite Aid opened its new headquarters in the Navy Yard district. The Rite Aid Collaboration Center is located on the second floor at 1200 Intrepid Avenue.

Almost 10 months ago to the date, Rite Aid announced that its corporate employees would be going remote, it would be downsizing its headquarters and moving it from East Pennsboro Township to Philadelphia, and that it would create a network of collaboration hubs that would provide spaces for in-person meetings, and training and development, including one in the Harrisburg area. At the time, the company said it had about 2,800 employees working remotely.

The company said the new headquarters, which it calls a collaboration center, offers employees across Rite Aid’s various businesses — including Rite Aid retail pharmacy, Elixir, Health Dialog and Bartell Drugs — space to meet and collaborate.

“This new collaboration space represents how we are modernizing our brand from the inside out,” Rite Aid president and CEO, Heyward Donigan, said in a news release. “We are not only transforming our business to better serve our customers, but we are embracing new ways of working that blends a remote-first corporate workforce with opportunities for in-person collaboration.

Rite Aid officials and community leaders including Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday.

The 23,000 square-foot collaboration center designed by Meyer Design features a variety of conference rooms with video conferencing capabilities, a digital/video studio, and other amenities including a catering kitchen, multiple food and beverage stations, a business center and a respite room.

Rite Aid has a long-term lease with Ensemble Real Estate Solutions for the space, which can accommodate up to 300 people.

Rite Aid opened its first store — then Thrif D Discount Center in Scranton — 60 years ago. The company has 2,350 stores across 17 states, and employs more than 50,000 people.
